宋代大文学家苏东坡曾说：“梳头百余下，散发卧，熟寝至天明。”我国传统中医学也提到：头部为诸阳之首，汇聚了许多重要的经脉和穴位，经常梳理头发、按摩头皮，对养生保健具有一定功效。

中医学认为，肾主骨生髓，通于脑，“其华在发”。肝藏血，“发为血之余”。因“头为诸阳之会”，主宰一切精神情志活动，故又有“发为脑之华”之说。头发与肾、肝、心、脾、肺、脑等脏腑组织器官有着十分密切的关系。头发的乌黑、润泽、柔韧，均标志着气血充足、肾气充盛、大脑健旺、神气充足。所以，我国历代养生家都把梳头护发健脑的养生方法，看作是健康长寿的重要措施之一。
古代养生家主张“发宜多梳”。医书《诸病源候论》说：“千过梳头，头不白。”养生保健书《清异录》说：“服饵导引之余，有二事乃养生大要：梳头、洗脚是也。”养生书《摄生消息论》指出：“夏三月，每日梳头一、二百下，自然祛风明目矣。”历代养生家均格外重视梳头的养生保健作用。梳头不仅仅是修饰头发、美化容颜的小事，还是关系到防病延年的大事。
一日三篦  发须稠密
头发早白、脱发，成为现代人的一大困扰。其实，古人早有妙方。《黄帝内经》中有“一日三篦，发须稠密”之名言，《养生方》也说到梳头具有“发不落而生”的神奇效果。梳头时的温和刺激，通过神经的反射作用，可促进头部血液循环，加快细胞的新陈代谢，增加对头皮及毛发的血氧供应，使头发变得乌黑光润。
有人说：“我不敢梳头，因为头发本来就少，还老掉。”越是这样的人，越得多梳。凡是一梳就掉的头发，它根本就是在头上浮着呢！只有通过梳头刺激毛囊生长，才真正有助于改善脱发现象。还有人说：“我一梳头就白花花的，跟下雪似的，全是头皮屑。”其实，如果能每天梳头数十次，坚持一段时间，就会发现“雪花”逐步减少，而且梳完以后满手都是油污污的。这是把堵塞在毛孔里的黑油（中医讲的湿气、痰浊）给梳出来了，当然就不再长头皮屑了。
